I hate blogging. This is stupid. I don't want to do this. I cannot feel at ease with this thing looming over me. I am glad I tried this, but it is not for me. Just go to my LiveJournal, yo. I've had it since 2001 and I have no idea what I was thinking with this. I guess I wanted to be a real "blogger," but all of that just seems so unattainable. I don't want to spend my life here anymore. I want to spend time on my crafts and the relationships and things I enjoy! Not commenting on other blogs so I can get some hits. The economy has worsened since July and now that stores are putting out holiday merchandise and marking down fall items, it is important to be a savvy shopper! This fall is difficult for me to transition into. My winter wardrobe is so much more dressy than my summer clothes that I feel like a different person. Like a serious identity crisis! But most people dress like slobs, so I feel pretty good about it all. I think my style this fall mostly revolves around tights. I now own 10 pairs and it has taken over my drawers. The unfortunate thing is that 10 is not enough. There are so many patterns and colors that can add so easily to an outfit! I have already posted radical tights, so I'll let you in on what else I'm jonesin' for: long sleeve dresses. I love dresses because it is one whole outfit, but typically dresses that aren't short and/or sleeveless appear matronly. Example:

But with tights and boots we can move on from the Middle Ages and walk briskly through the cold air to the warmth an enclosed space. Don't forget a bracer before you go out though. ;)

This post is only going to be about a photograph of me. It really gets me pumped because I am having a silly time backstage after my set and I look flyyy. This is the weirdest outfit ever because not one item is thrifted! I always have something vintage on, but apparently not on 10/18/08. Even my shoes weren't.


I love to rap because when I listen to rap it is just doing homework. I think there is a lot of crap on the radio, but there is also a lot of tight songs. Please disregard my brainwashing.


In a previously unforeseen unrelated note, I saw a Christmas tree strapped to a car on Sunday and today I accidently heard a split second of "All I Want for Christmas" by Mariah Carey. Who likes that song? It is so shrill and not a classic at all. Because I have missed making mixes for every holiday that I plan to make one for (ugh, my half-finished Halloween mix was gonna be tight!) over the past 2 years, I need to start on that Christmas mix. They are nice little handmade presents that you can give to anyone. Am I really already discussing this?

Mimmi Pigg; or Soothe the Savage Turd

One quick post before bed.

Mimmi Pigg is Swedish for Minnie Mouse. Adorable! I love the slight change in the first name so that when you say it out loud, you sound retarded.

I have been meditating on all the games I have made up over the years and as I prep for compiling them, I recalled one which, unlike the others, requires crucial supplies, but is in the same vein. One needs a computer and a microphone, which are pretty standard issue these days, but may not be on hand at a park or your grandmother's when you're bored. Record your voice saying a short phrase, such as "I love you" or your full name. Reverse the recording so your voice is speaking backwards. Listen to the backwards voice a few times and memorize how to say the phrase backwards. Channel Thom Yorke on this one. Now, record your voice again saying the phrase backwards. Laugh your ass off as you reverse the recording again. Your voice recording is now speaking forwards, but sounds like you're totes retarded. Do it! I've sat around playing this game for hours, crying, weeping with laughter. Will it ever not be funny?!

Vlogging; or "Is this really happening?"

Vlogs are the raddest shit ever because we get to witness little twerps and total bitches in their purest, most egotistical form. In real life, these people totally piss us off; on the internet, we watch every crummy video of people scratching their ass or soap boxing about some inane topic. The vlog initially fills the same sort of criteria as a blog, but it is so much more. It is a video, not text. I suppose my vanity assuming people want to read this is equal, but call me old fashioned. Well, don't actually because I am totes new fashioned. And I mean I guess I have just undermined my whole argument and don't have much more to say on the topic successfully. I just wanted to post that video, honestly. This boy cracks me up. I want to watch all his videos! So, I guess after all it's a greater meta thing because I hate these videos and love them for the exact same reasons. Hmmm....

Well well well, dear neglected blog readers (reader?). I have risen from the ashes and am proud to announce my participation in NaBloPoMo, National Blog Posting Month, where in I write a blog post every day during November. This is a rad idea because it is making me write. And because I might win a prize! I think the odds are in my favor because I have not won a random drawing since 6th grade when I won a boombox in the recognition notice drawing. It was so embarassing; I had to walk in front of the WHOLE middle school to accept! GUH! The point is, I have a ton of half written posts I want to get up and share with you. I always have a dozen ideas swirling around in my head so I imagine that this activity will also garner clarity! I just rapped up a ton of shows so I am stoked to have more brain time to devote to my creative whims.


I just bought 5 pairs of 3D glasses, which I fully plan to incorporate into my daily wardrobe. I am gonna mod it up and make some necklaces. If I sold one 3D glasses necklace for $3, I would make almost 100% profit. I mean, that's really all I want to do with my Silky merch, just hand make some crappy kitsch things for my friends. I think I am going to ask min lillebror to do some art for me. Zach draws epic landscapes and then he "destroys" it by covering the scene with a brutal battle. My brother is 9 years younger than me and has always been one of my very best friends.


I have recently found out that a movie is being made of Preacher and The Goon. Seth told me there is going to be a Kick-Ass movie and I mean, I am still not over The Spirit. I know about Y: The Last Man, Black Hole, and We3 and I think there was another beloved tale that is slated to be snatched from my breast. Good God! What's next? Fables? Good-Bye, Chunky Rice? American Elf?!?!? hahaha! So I guess what bothers me is that it seems like all the writers are just leeching off other people's stuff! All the good writers are on television and everybody knows it.

Closet Rehab

I feel like we've all seen a million makeover shows and articles, but nothing has really resonated with me. But just now I found this excellent quote from the October 2008 issue of Real Simple. If you're like me and need to pare your closet to make outfitting (or squeezing in new garments) simpler, take an afternoon and ask yourself these questions of each item:

"Do you love it? Is it flattering? Is it you?" If it fail[s] one of these three questions, it [is] a goner.

Those three elements simplify the weeding out process for me ten fold! I hope you can use this tip too!

4 things I did today (it's only 10:30 at work, so I'll include yesterday):

• Yesterday, I made dinner for my family - a fabulous chicken curry. The recipe said 15 mins, but I am not too comfortable around the kitchen, so it took over an hour. Then my mom and brother were late, so most of the sauce dried out while I was trying to keep it warm. I also used the garlic American cheese I bought at the flea market on a toasted baguette. Yum.
  
• I finally got around to making a Silky Snowflake page on Facebook. I needed to create one so people could have a place to find out about shows instead of just adding me as a friend. So, BECOME A FAN OF SILKY ON FACEBOOK!!
  
• Also last night, I caught a portion of Leonard Nimoy and the Western Wind's The Birthday of the World. Like every American town in mid-September, Our local NPR station aired the recording (though Yom Kippur is on Wednesday?). I am fascinated by Jewish culture and I found the music very beautiful and moving.
  
• It has almost been a month since I placed an order from the weird and cute kawaii store Cutie Stall. I have ordered from them before (Hello Kitty noodle cups!) and it did not take as long, so I sent an email yesterday asking about the shipment. It turns out that because I asked for the "cheapest shipping" it takes about a month to arrive from Japan. $2.75 more and my Japan Birds & Tree Shirt, Korea Spicy Mushroom Noodles, and Nyanko Kitten Notebook (Burger) would have been here in a week! So, word to the wise.

4 things on my to do list (I'm glad it only asks for four):

• take bike for tune up (which requires syncing my schedule with my eternally busy friend to pick up my bike and somehow fit it in my tiny car)
  
• sew missing buttons (I've had these dresses I thrifted for months but never worn b/c of crucial button placement)
  
• get shoes fixed (the tip of one high heel came off and I don't have any appropriate glue and the insoles of two thrifted pairs [soft, brown Salvatore Ferragamo pumps and red sling back heels with bows!] are coming loose.)
  
• buy digital camera (i think my barren blog is evidence enough)

• My first thought was Pokemon, but I don't feel guilty about it. I love anything with Pokemon (television shows, video games, earrings, plush toys, etc.) and any Pokemon references! I am not well versed in anything past #151, but I love them all.

• I sometimes worry that people will critique my interests when they find out how rarely I find time for books and music, company for board games, and money for shopping.
  
• I am learning to wear (and love!) gold.
  
• I get stressed about my conflicting desires to wear my favorite t-shirt and beat up Vans vs looking so crisp in bright tights with heels and a new skirt. I love both looks equally, though the latter usually earns more complements! ;)
  
• I love when my cat sleeps on my neck! We are both in cuddle ecstasy!

Style Icon: Parker Posey

I don't know what the first Parker Posey movie I saw was. Perhaps it was subUrbia when I was babysitting or Best in Show at a friend's house. Regardless, I know I immediately fell in love with her. Whether she portrays a rock star's sexy manager in a drama or a neurotic, braces-clad Weimaraner owner in a mockumentary, her unique charisma and mad skillz are off the hook.

Though she truly shines on the screen and stage, when Parker is not acting she still rules. Her classy style is simple but not boring. She rocks the statement piece like no other. Fun tights, accessories, pleats, scarves, bold bags, and even her pup act as the cherry to her look on and off the red carpet. She has such a crisp look, I would love to see inside her closet! Parker isn't a daring style icon, simply a smart, witty actress with a smart, chic style to match.

Blog I love

I am totes in love with Tavi. She is the raddest 7th grader ever. I found her through Tricia on bits and bobbins. I think she has the wildest style. She is a total star. She blogs about her style experiments and her fashion inspirations. Her totally unique style eclipses many seasoned fashioned bloggers. The mad innocence and silliness puts this blog in a wild new category. I love when she nostalgicises to when she was younger and mentions the other kids at her school. Tavi also likes to make pop culture references from the 1990s, which is surprising as she had not developed into a self-aware being until the cusp of the second milennium.

The most honest thing I've ever written on this blog

I am having a tough time these days and live for distractions and meaningful interactions. This week is stressful: loss of a loved one, having to perform, and seeing an ex I have yet to get over. Of those three things, none has happened yet, but they will all happen this week and it is harrowing. My chest is tight; I feel as if my heart is swollen with sadness and confusion. My eyes remain puffy. I am swirling in a vortex of half-thoughts, memories, and all the strongest emotions. At any moment I equally desire to get away, seek out a sedative and to meditate out my true feelings and find peace through a clearer understanding, but I---

Things I Love Thursday

I feel pretty bad for letting my blog go to the wayside, but I didn't feel inspired. I felt out of whack. I got a really good rest last night and today I feel energized and ready to tackle all my tasks. So, without further ado, my TILT for today:

• rapping: If you've randomly stumbled across my blog, I will inform you that my rap persona is Silky Snowflake and I have so much fun writing songs and performing. I truly do. I get pretty stressed when I have a show coming up, but it is a creative outlet and that is just how I roll. I am a world class procrastinator, so I am always crunched. I bought the flyest threads and accessories yesterday! Leftover 4th of July apparel, giant earrings, and a glasses necklace. Just wait, bra.
  
• the universe: I'm freaked out just writing about it. I'll never get over it. Never. When I look at the sky, I see past the particulate matter and past our local group and past the edges of my imagination into infinity and I am surprised when I come back to my awareness. I fear one day finding myself somewhere else. To be honest, it feels a lot like reading His Dark Materials did.
• traveling: I get lightweight bummed when I think about how long it's been since I had a proper trip or vaycay. I went to the beach for a weekend in June and it is too depressing to consider if there has been much else besides overnighters since Disney World last summer. Oh, Disney World... But now I am working towards extended jaunts across the pond and the Mason-Dixon.
